HD LiveWire: Harley-Davidson’s first fully electric motorbike and how to charge it with a zappi

Updated: Mar 17, 2021

It's been featured in Long Way Up with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman and now the long awaited LiveWire from motorbike legends Harley-Davidson is now available for pre-order and it appears to be exceeding expectations!

We've got the low-down on what to expect with this bike and how it pairs perfectly with the myenergi zappi for easy at-home charging.

The LiveWire is Harley-Davidsons first foray into all electric drive. For more traditional revheads, the fear behind an electric motorbike is that, for what it gains in sustainability, it loses in overall power, but that is not the case with the HD LiveWire. This thing boasts a city range of 235 kilometres and top speeds of 153km/h which, for a motorbike like this one, makes for a fast ride.

The bike’s motor, which is liquid cooled and mounted longitudinally across the chassis, delivers 105 horsepower and 86 pound-feet of torque, allowing for a 0-100km/h start in just a fraction over 3 seconds. That’s blisteringly fast for a fully electric motor, the LiveWire’s speed only assisted by its fully chrome-less chassis that weighs in at about 250 kilos.

Charging-wise, the HD LiveWire can be plugged in at any outlet and use Level 1 charging or it can utilize Level 3 DC fast-charging at any fast-charging station while on the go. Using a fast charger can have the HD LiveWire charged to 80% battery in 40 minutes, and 100% in about an hour.

If you'd like to see the LiveWire in action, it may be time to buy an Apple TV subscription to get up to speed (geddit?) with Long Way Up. As the preferred vehicle for Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's latest adventure/epic journey motorbiking from Argentina to LA, over 20,000 kilometres, with a team of amazing Rivian utes as support crew.

After his trip, Charley Boorman opened up on social media about his electric journey across South America was an eye-opening experience for him.

Excitingly for us, he's now partnered with myenergi to use the new zappi to charge his LiveWire using only his self-generated solar power, starting a new journey to transform his transport and home with sustainable energy.

“This experience of riding purely on electricity has been pretty transformative for me and so I have decided to team up with UK based green energy business myenergi who innovate and manufacture revolutionary green energy products… I am going on a Green Journey with them to gradually transfer my own home and vehicles to using cleaner and greener energy.”

We look forward to test driving the LiveWire when it hits the Australian market..and if you're on the order list, give us a call to get your LiveWire approved myenergi zappi installed!
