Nissan e-NV200 By Mark, NZ
Edit: For those who aren't aware the e-NV200 is a small van/people mover based on the Nissan LEAF only available as a grey import into Australia and NZ. A truly rare and remarkable vehicle.
Why did you choose this particular model?
We needed something to replace the RAV4 Sarah used previously, but ideally wanted something with a bit more boot space.
How long have you owned the vehicle?
A year ago - imported EX UK
Which other models did you consider at the time of purchase?
When we bought it there was nothing else that came close - the Mitsubishi PHEV was suitable size wise, but the EV only range was (still is) pathetic. We also looked at the Renault Kangoo, but wrote that off as it does not have DCFC capability.
Do you own any other vehicles? Do you have them for long trips or practical reasons?
I have a KIA Soul EV and we still have a Mitsubishi Delica 4x4 for towing trailers & moving sheep firewood etc.
What do you enjoy the most about the car?
Cost of running & quiet operation.
What niggles you about it?
Limited range aerodynamics and extra weight compared to Leaf means it is not as economical given same battery/drive train. If we'd known more, we'd have gone for even higher spec with heated seats & steering wheel. With such a large internal volume to heat, the heat pump struggles to heat the space, especially on shorter journeys.
Has your style of driving changed since owning an EV?
As running costs are much less we probably do more mileage that with the ICE vehicles we had previously.
What's the longest and shortest range you've experienced?
Hard to give an accurate figure as the "GOM" fluctuates so wildly, most starting ranges after overnight charging are about 125km, but this can drop to about 110km. Comfortable trip distance is 100km on a single charge.
Where do you mostly charge? And do you make much use of public charging stations?
Mostly at home, but any journey over 100km (e.g. round trip into Wellington) will involve a DCFC.
How much longer do you intend to keep it for?
Not sure - nothing else on market yet to replace it - LDV vans also don't have DCFC either.
Would you buy another one, if not what's your next car going to be?
Probably, but would be looking for one with a bigger battery and higher spec. But hopefully by the time we need to consider a replacement there might be a EV Ute available.
How have the dealers been with regards to support?
Nissan NZ don't officially support either the Leaf or the E-NV200, but local Nissan agents in Wellington seem pretty good based on feedback from local Leaf owners. There is a NV200 available as a petrol version, so getting parts should be relatively painless.
Do you unashamedly consider yourself an EVangelist? YES!!

Take one for a test drive. Check out the specs carefully, the trim levels vary considerably, so it pays to check the feature against your wish list rather than assuming they are included in a specific trim level.
