Hyundai Ioniq Arrives In Queensland, Well Theoretically Australia

Having launched on the 27th November in Queensland, Hyundai brings its first green vehicle in Australia, the 2019 Ioniq.

Hyundai is offering the choice of pure electric, a plug-in hybrid and a petrol/electric hybrid, with associated costs & features below. With the expectation to go on sale from mid-December.

Pure Electric: a real-world battery range of 230km with ultra-fast 100kW DC charging capability of 80% capacity in about 23 minutes. Price $44,990 (elite) and $48,990 (premium)

PHEV: allows 63km pure EV-only trips with a range-extending petrol engine offering easy overnight charging. Price $40,990 (elite) and $45,490 (premium)

Hybrid: a petrol/electric powertrain, a familiar driving experience and exceptional 3.4L/100km economy. Price $33,990 (elite) and $38,990 (premium)

Hyundai states that all three are refined, responsive and deliver both a user-friendly and engaging drive and superb fuel/energy efficiency.

“The 2019 Ioniq makes responsive and eco-friendly electrified driving accessible to a wide range of customers, in an attractive and user-friendly compact package featuring comprehensive standard safety and locally tuned comfort and chassis dynamics, with the peace of mind of our five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty and lifetime service plan.” Hyundai Motor Company Australia chief executive officer JW Lee says.

Queensland is a state that is fast becoming known as the Australian hot spot for electric vehicles (EVs), being the home to the

Electric Super Highway.

“The fact that drivers can travel approximately 1800km, from Coolangatta to Cairns, using the latest EV charging technology gave Hyundai the impetus it needed to invest into bringing its Ioniq electric vehicle to Australia, and choosing Queensland as its launchpad into the Australian market,” Transport and main roads minister Mark Bailey says.

“Tritium is changing the face of the global EV industry and is a great home-grown Queensland success story.”
