Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV charging

Family-sized, affordable and no range anxiety

It's become such a mainstay in the electric vehicle community that it's hard to believe the plug-in hybrid Outlander has only been around since 2014. Leveraging off their real-world experience of the i-Miev, Mitsubishi launched the Outlander PHEV as the world's first electric SUV.

It was an instant hit in many markets, due to it's ability to make relatively short journeys (less than 50kms) on the battery, but with a petrol back up of around 480kms...perfect for anyone passionate about electric but has range anxiety!

The Outlander PHEV is keenly priced thanks to government subsidies.

The fact that it's well sized for a family and has plenty of boot space has also helped it become a popular choice for first time EV owners. This full five-door, five-passenger SUV with genuine off-road capability in a PHEV package was unusual in 2014...and still is!

The Outlander PHEV is capable of up to 50km in electric car driving mode from it's dual front and rear motors thanks to its 11kwh (usable) battery pack. Our team knows this plug in hybrid electric car intimately; three of us own one and all of us have driven one!

If you have solar panels, why not use all that renewable energy to charge your Outlander PHEV rather than feeding it back to the grid? The British designed and manufactured, the Myenergi Zappi is one of our most popular electric car chargers for EV owners across Australia and New Zealand. The Zappi takes your self-generated solar power and feeds it to your EV, or diverts it to your home appliances at a rate that means you're not using grid power. In short, the Zappi will keep you driving on sunshine and renewable power!

While your Outlander PHEV comes with a portable electric car charger, we can help you top up yours quickly and smartly with a range of electric wall charger options plus many public electric charger cable products carefully crafted for the Australia and New Zealand markets...so, let's have a look at some great PHEV charging tips and tricks!

How to charge your Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV from a public J1772 Type 1 electric car charger

As your Outlander PHEV already has a type 1 or J1772 charge port then you're all set. Simply plug in your car and start charging up! Note you may need to sign up to Chargepoint or EVUp to activate a given wallbox.

All Type 1 or J1772 chargers have a cable attached so there's no need to adapt or plug in any EV charger adaptors or electric car cables.

How to charge your Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV from a public Type 2 Mennekes charging station

A Type 2 to Type 1  Mennekes cable will charge your Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV at all type 2 universal  public charging points. An essential EV charging cable for every J1772 Type 1 electric vehicle to enable safe and secure charging from public ‘Universal’ charging station.

Most public charge points are now universal; this means the point has no in-built cable. The result is reduced maintenance and damage, as well as reduced liability for the owner of the station.

If there is no permanently cable attached to the charger then there is less risk of it being driven over or generally being abused. Think air hose in a servo.  They are otherwise known as BYO cable chargers.
