Dare we say…our Nissan e-NV200?
Incredibly, but predictably for the EVolution Australia team, the Nissan e-NV200 turned out to be the star of the show. Yep, this cute-but-slightly-strange looking Japanese import had heads turning and people staring throughout the day on Saturday as they wandered into the main expo stand to visit the range of awesome Australian EV businesses and organisations.
Boss Russ was lucky enough to have a chat with the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Lily D’Ambrosio MP, about all things Zappi, AURA and Cylon as she took a tour as a special guest of the expo. Minister D’Ambrosio’s enthusiasm for the EV sector and the emission-low and-less technology that’s revolutionising our transport industry was clear for all to see and she seemed to enjoy her time visiting our innovative charging tech at the EVolution Australia stand (despite Russ talking waaaay too much about all the stuff he loves!).
Also, visiting us from Canberra, was Deputy Leader of the Greens, Adam Bandt MP…naturally, he was in his element at the EV Expo and it was great to see him getting into conversation with EV owners, innovators, leaders and businesses.
We’ve mentioned a heap of other great exhibitors and enthusiasts who attended the EV Expo in Melbourne, but we just wanted to make special mention of Jaunt, a start-up Australian business we think is going to really take off. Combining the ideal of upcycling with the magic of driving electric, Jaunt take iconic old off-road vehicles and electrify them for a few more years of emission-free of 4WD adventures in the great Australian bush.
We love this idea (and are slightly jealous that they get to spend their days tinkering with old cars) and encourage everyone to get onto the Jaunt Facebook page and give them some support.
But back to the eNV200. Weighing almost as little as a Nissan LEAF, this people mover/commercial van/courier truck is unlike anything we’ve seen on Australian shores and we’re sure it’ll be a popular drive as more become available on the Aussie market. And the outlay? Somewhere in the region of $35k!
Of course, if you’d like to know more about what we do, how we can help you get charged or the EV world in general, please call us on 1300 70 11 99 (Australia) or 0800 11 11 51 (New Zealand) or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Nah, not really.. it was great wasn’t it!
We were delighted to be the major sponsor, along with Bank Australia, for the second year running as this event is going from strength to strength. 2019 saw more exhibitors, more test drives from major manufacturers of both vehicles and electric bikes, and a visit from one or two of our state politicians who can obviously see which way the EV wind is blowing (straight to rapid transition!).
If you’re a current EV owner, we hope you took advantage of the six AURA universal charge points we installed behind the main building; according to the usage logs, the AURAs recorded 30 charging sessions over the course of the event, so there was lots of emission-free driving on the way home for some people!
As always, it’s fantastic to see many of our current and past clients, and to catch up on how they’re going with their HEVs, BEVs and PHEVs both in Melbourne and from other regional or country areas. Our team loves the opportunity to collectively meet you all and hope that our discussions – as brief and rushed as they may be on such a busy day – give you a sense of the passion and knowledge we have for this industry.
A major congratulations to Renew (aka the ATA) and their amazing band of blue-shirted volunteers and supporters who did such a brilliant job in putting the event together and ensuring that all the major players in the EV world were there to interact with. It was particularly great to see the Australia Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA), Dutchman Wiebe Wakker on the Melbourne leg of his round-world EV adventure, Envirostream who are solving the issues of battery recycling right here in Australia, the innovative brains behind SolarTuk and HEAPS of other interesting/ground-breaking/inspiring and downright awesome people.
EVolution Australia is proud to sponsor the EV Expo and support the exploration and uptake of electric vehicles in Australia. We believe events like this one give people an opportunity to get up close to an EV, take it for a spin, dispel some of the untruths about EVs, learn more about how they work and, importantly, how easily they fit into everyday life.
We’ve said it many times, but as we transition away from ICEs and to a pure, emission-free transport future, the better our country, our health and our environment will be for it…the EV Expo helps that with education, awareness and adoption.
We have a gallery of images to come from some of the photographers on the day (we didn’t get a chance to take any, as we were too busy talking to all of you!) which we’ll post up soon. In the meantime, the above image of Zoran (right) with Wiebe surrounded by all their favourite tech really captures the essence of the day!
Can’t wait til next year!
